Event Report: Energy Efficiency in Germany and Japan - Solutions for Commercial, Public and Residential Buildings

On April 17, 2018, the AHK Japan held a symposium with the title "Energy Efficiency in Germany and Japan: Solutions for Commercial, Public and Residential Buildings". The daylong event that was kindly supported by the German Embassy, JETRO, the Institute for Building Environment and Energy Conservation (IBEC), and the International Building Materials Forum (IBMF), was well received by the almost 80 attendees.

AHK Japan had the pleasure to welcome Ms. Shirley Anderson, Chief Human Resources Officer of Nippon Sheet Glass Co. Ltd. (NSG) as a speaker to the first Executive Insights of 2018.

Spielwarenmesse Dialog took place on March 6.

On December 20, 2017, the German Chamber Talent Café took place for the fourth time in total and for the second time in corporation with the Waseda University. The participating companies could use the facilities of the Waseda University to install a company booth and participate in panel discussions to briefly introduce their business and engage in conversation with the students.

During the last years, one keyword seems to be omnipresent on the global stage: the ongoing digitalization. Germany as well as Japan are following their own approaches with the German concept “Industrie 4.0” and the Japanese strategy “Connected industries”.

The New Year’s Reception is traditionally the first and one of the most important events for AHK Japan. 53 new member companies got to know each other and joined the network of longstanding members of AHK Japan.

AHK Japan had the pleasure to welcome the German Ambassador Dr. Hans Carl von Werthern as a special speaker for the working group “Young Leaders Forum” on November 22, 2017.

The German Finance Roundtable met at the offices of Deutsche Bank Group Japan on November 14. Over 20 participants gathered to listen to the views of experts in the field of Bitcoin, digitalization and FinTech.

Vom 6. – 10. November fand im Rahmen des BMWi-Markterschließungsprogramms zur Unterstützung deutscher KMU die erste Geschäftsanbahnungsreise nach Japan zum Thema Kosmetik/Pflege und Waschmittel statt.

Am 19. Juni wurden im Grand Hyatt Tokyo die Gewinner des German Innovation Award „Gottfried Wagener Preis 2017“ (GIA) in feierlichem Rahmen ausgezeichnet.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the German Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Japan (AHK Japan) took place on June 6 at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo.

At the AGM, five new candidates were elected to join the Board of Directors and one Board Member was re-elected.

Das am 12. April durch die AHK Japan veranstaltete Mittagessen mit anschließendem Vortrag von Shinzo Yotsumoto stand ganz im Zeichen zweier japanischer Begrifflichkeiten.

160 young talents came together to network and make new friends regardless of nationality, company or industry affiliation. 15 members of the ‘Young Leaders Forum’ – the working group for young professionals of AHK Japan, represented the German-Japanese business community.

Das Seminar „Datenschutz in Japan angesichts der aktuellen Gesetzesänderung“ fand aufgrund hohem Interesses ein zweites Mal statt. Im Seminar wurden die grundlegenden Änderungen des am 30. Mai 2017 in Kraft tretenden reformierten Datenschutzgesetzes in Japan („Japanese Act on the Protection of Personal Information“) sowie dessen praktische Auswirkungen auf Unternehmen in Japan erläutert.

Die Referenten Dr. Tobias Schiebe, LL.M. (ARQIS Foreign Law Office) und Ms. Mariko Eto (TMI Associates) erklärten die rechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen bei der Beendigung von Arbeitsverhältnissen in Japan und veranschaulichten diese anhand von klassischen Problemfällen und Tipps aus der Praxis, wie z.B. bezüglich betrieblichen Umstrukturierungen/Personalkürzungen, leistungsschwachen Mitarbeitern (sogenannten „Low-Performern“) oder Langzeiterkrankungen.

The first Executive Insights of 2017 had the honor to welcome Mr. Takeshi Nakane, Former Ambassador to Germany, as a speaker on the topical issue of “Japan’s Policy towards the Middle East”.

Im Jahr 2017 steht die bilaterale Kooperation zu Industrie 4.0 zwischen Deutschland und Japan im Fokus. Japan ist Partnerland der diesjährigen CeBIT. Rund 120 Aussteller aus Japan werden auf der diesjährigen CeBIT in Hannover auftreten.

Auch in 2016 lud die AHK Japan wieder dazu ein, das Jahr in weihnachtlicher Atmosphäre ausklingen zu lassen. In Tokyo kamen am 12. Dezember im Conrad Tokyo mehr als 200 Gästen zusammen.

50 Mitglieder der AHK Japan und der Swiss Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan (SCCIJ) versammelten sich zum ersten Luncheon des Jahres am 9. Februar im ANA Intercontinental Hotel.

Auch in 2016 lud die AHK Japan wieder dazu ein, das Jahr in weihnachtlicher Atmosphäre ausklingen zu lassen. In Tokyo kamen am 12. Dezember im Conrad Tokyo mehr als 200 Gästen zusammen.
