Recent developments of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) within the EU and Japan

Date: October 10 (Wed.), 2018, 18:30-21:00 (Admission from 18:00)

Registration Deadline: September 17 (Mon.), 2018

Organized by: German Consulate General Osaka-Kobe, AHK Japan and Japanese-German Business Association

Speaker: Mr. Markus Loening, former Human Rights Commissioner of the German government

About the event:
As for our speaker, we are honored that Mr. Markus LOENING – former Human Rights Commissioner of the German government – will outline recent developments of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) within the EU and Japan. Even though sustainability has been frequently discussed over the past decades, it was not until recently that the EU took legally binding action (“Guidelines on non-financial reporting”, 2017) and issued frameworks for the promotion of labor rights, decent working conditions and environmental protection in global supply chains (“National Action Plan for Business and Human Rights”, 2016). Above that, the United Nations set 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) covering social and economic development issues such as poverty, hunger and gender equality. Our speaker will give input on the importance of the political and corporate developments, the feasibility and potential future strategies in order to take a leading role in implementing CSR and ESG within our societies.

The presentation will be held in English, with an optional interpreter for questions in Japanese. After the talks there will be a German style buffet reception with 2 hours of networking time.

We look forward to welcoming you on October 10th – Please do not hesitate to contact the German Consulate General Osaka-Kobe if any questions arise.
