As you may have already booked a flight to escape the coming heat, our topic this time will be recent developments surrounding airports in Kansai: As reported in the news, both KIX and ITAMI were partly privatized in 2016, by selling a 44-year operations concession to a consortium led by ORIX and the French VINCI Group. With a price tag of about 17 billion EUR, this was one of the biggest PFI-transactions in Japan to date. The newly formed company KANSAI AIRPORTS subsequently also took over the operations of Kobe Airport, from April 2018.
