HR Roundtable: Harassment



About the event:

HR related matters are one of the core topics of German companies in Japan: 3 out of 7 top challenges identified in “German Business in Japan 2018” - the annual business climate survey of AHK Japan – are HR related.

This roundtable aims to provide a regular platform to exchange insights and experiences on HR related topics and is only open to CEOs & HR representatives of our member companies.

In the recent past, harassment and bullying at work has become an increasing social problem in Japan. Between March 2017 and March 2018, around 72,000 enquiries for help and counseling regarding various forms of bullying and power harassment at workplaces have been administered by labor bureaus nationwide. The Japanese diet adopted on 29 May 2019 an Amendment to the Act regarding Overall Promotion of Employment Related Measures and Policies, Employment Stabilization and Fulfilling Occupational Life, Etc. Employers will be obliged by the amended Act to implement measures to prevent power harassment at work. This roundtable will discuss the legal framework concerning harassment at work (especially power harassment) and strategies how to deal with it in practice.
