Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Peter Altmaier visits Japan

During the two days of his sojourn in Japan Federal Minister Altmaier held numerous talks with high-ranking representatives from Japan’s politics and business.

From October 30 to 31, 2018 Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Peter Altmaier visited Japan accompanied by a business delegation. The objective behind this trip was to intensify the political and economic relations with Japan.

At a meeting with Hiroshige Seko, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and Masatoshi Ishida, Minister for Internal Affairs, they signed a Joint Declaration of intent on economic policy and economic cooperation concerning areas such as digitalization, trade and energy (see METI).

The AHK Japan prepared a large part of the schedule and contents for the visit of the business delegation. At times in the company of Federal Minister Altmaier they took part in an exchange on the current state of AI in Japan and got insight on the current developments and trends in Asia and China from the Japanese point of view. The highlight among these talks was a business roundtable with high-ranking representatives from the major Japanese business federation Keidanren. The discussion included topics such as the future of mobility, digital transformation and current trade and investment conditions.

At a reception at the Meiji-Kinenkan representatives of resident German businesses had the opportunity to meet with the delegation, Japanese partners and Federal Minister Altmaier before the delegation departed to Indonesia to attend the APK 2018 in Jakarta.
