Signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between the AHK Japan and the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation
Creating New Japan-Europe Business Opportunities
On Monday 1st July 2019 at the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan in Tokyo, Philippe de Taxis du Poët, EU-side General Manager of the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation, and Marcus Schürmann, Chief Executive Officer of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan (AHK Japan), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to reinforce their collaboration to the benefit of their respective clients.
In the agreement, both parties committed to supporting Japanese companies searching for partners in the EU, using the partnering search tools provided by the Enterprise Europe Network Service (EEN), of which the EU-Japan Centre is the contact point in Japan. The EU-Japan Centre will also introduce interested German and Japanese clients to AHK Japan’s services, information and contacts, with the overall objective being the facilitation of business between Germany and Japan.
In the context of the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement having entered into force on 1st February 2019, the signature of an MoU with a European country’s Chamber of Commerce is a strong step forward and will bring the EU-Japan Centre’s activities and services closer to its users to ensure maximum utilization of and benefit from the EPA by European businesses, in particular SMEs. The MoU also illustrates the engagement of the EU-Japan Centre to further strengthen cooperation with the EU Member States Trade Promotion Cooperation in Japan.
