About
The origins of Leybold can be traced back to 1905. A German engineer Ludwig Leybold founded L. Laybold Shokan in Tokyo. In 1907 with Kurt Meissner, the second president, the company became a pioneer of a trading company in Japan, contributing significantly to the development of Japanese industry. The company acted as a bridge between Japan and Germany and together with Japan's post-war recovery, introduced German machinery and equipment for the heavy electric machinery, shipbuilding and automobile industries to Japan.
In 1980, the company changed its name to Leybold Co., Ltd., which now handles machine tools, industrial machinery and chemical products.
