My name is Jan Stefan Scheld; I was born in Mainz / Germany and am currently serving as Country Managing Director for Boehringer Ingelheim in Japan. After obtaining my license as a physician, I joined the healthcare industry at P&G and later at Boehringer Ingelheim, working in local and global functions in Germany and Romania. Having lived in Japan since 2014, I am passionate about Japanese culture and the opportunities to “combine the best of 2 worlds”.
Boehringer Ingelheim is a family owned pharmaceutical company since 1885. It has a presence in Japan since over 60 years with headquarters in Tokyo, a production site in Yamagata and a research & development center in Kobe. The relative importance of Japan is increasing recently as demonstrated by growing investment into production and development of medicines in Japan. In parallel, Boehringer Ingelheim is investing into the international development of talents from Japan as well as bringing international colleagues into the country. Currently, Boehringer Ingelheim has approximately 2000 employees in Japan with a mix of over 20 nationalities.
As AHK board member, I would like to further drive exchange of experiences across member companies independent of industry. Personally and professionally, I am committed to support the creation Japanese – German collaborations with focus on education, talent development and creating an innovation friendly environment in Japan. With a decade of Japanese experience as expatriate, I am happy to support the German community in Tokyo. My personal interests are traveling, fitness and classical music.
