As the geopolitical landscape shifts under the Trump 2.0 administration, developed economies around the world face mounting challenges in securing their industrial and technological foundations. How does Japan interpret today’s rapidly changing international environment, and what direction is its economic security policy taking? Can Japan-Germany collaboration be further deepened? What role does “economic security intelligence” play in managing growing tensions between Washington and Berlin?

In this keynote, Prof. Akira Igata - Project Lecturer and head of the Economic Security Intelligence Laboratory (ESIL) at the University of Tokyo’s RCAST - examines Japan’s evolving economic security strategy, with a special focus on the newly revised METI action plan released in late May.
