Japan is poised to emerge a winner in the emerging new global economic order. As previously unthinkable changes in technology and fundamental shifts in national policy priorities compound to disrupt the global “business as usual” consensus for every nation, Japan’s resilience, social stability and rising corporate metabolism make it an increasingly attractive investment proposition. The negative and dispiriting pull of the 3 Ds — debt, deflation, demographics - has now being replaced by an uplifting new ABC - Ambition, Bastion of Stability, and Confidence. The boom in capex spending, M&A, real estate and the stock market are evidence of this change. But is this too good to be true? How sustainable is this Japan upturn? What forces drive it, and what priorities will PM Takaichi set? Where are the emerging new opportunities for your business? And what could derail Japan’s optimistic path?
