Premium Partner Spotlight: Würth Industry Japan
Japan’s manufacturing sector is known for its high standards of quality. At the same time, manufacturers are increasingly facing challenges such as labor shortages, rising costs and the need for greater digitalisation. For Würth Industry Japan, these developments create an opportunity to actively reshape the current market.
Würth Industry Japan is part of a global organisation with more than 85,000 employees supporting its own customers across more than 80 countries. The company provides a broad range of fastening and assembly materials, from tools and chemicals to essential production consumables. These products are complemented by Würth Industry’s innovative solutions such as RFID Kanban and ORSYmat automatic vending machines, making material supply more efficient and helping businesses keep their production processes running smoothly.
Alberto Fochesato, Representative & Managing Director at Würth Industry Japan, explains the key trends shaping Japan’s manufacturing sector and how Würth Industry Japan is responding to them.
AHKJ: What makes Japan strategically important for Würth Industry?
Alberto Fochesato: As one of the world’s leading economies, Japan is home to global multinational companies with exceptionally high-quality standards. This makes Japan a strong fit for Würth Industry: we can support customers locally while creating a seamless bridge to their overseas markets and operations.
AHKJ: What developments in the Japanese market are you currently watching most closely?
Alberto Fochesato: Our customers in Japan are increasingly facing bottlenecks caused by labor shortages and rising costs. At the same time, the relatively low level of digitalisation in our sector can make these challenges even more difficult.
For Würth Industry Japan, however, these pressures also create room for a different approach:
We see current challenges as a prime opportunity to transform the market—moving away from a simple product-focused approach toward comprehensive system solutions that streamline last-mile delivery tasks. - Alberto Fochesato
AHKJ: What is one strategic priority you are currently focusing on in Japan?
Alberto Fochesato: Würth Industry Japan is still a relatively young company in the market, having been established around two years ago. Our main priority is therefore to grow our sales and customer base while continuing to adapt our approach based on the response of the Japanese market and the needs of different customers.
AHKJ: What particularly distinguishes Würth Industry in Japan?
Alberto Fochesato: Our approach is to understand and serve the local market by drawing on Würth Industry’s global experience. Würth Industry’s strength is having connection with Japanese companies that also operate factories overseas. We can show our customers in Japan how we work with their overseas factories and how similar approaches could be applied locally. For example, by showing our Vendor Managed Inventory system (VMI) solutions, we can help reduce the total cost of ownership for C-Parts.
AHKJ: What value does the AHK Japan network and Premium Partnership bring to Würth Industry Japan?
Alberto Fochesato: The AHK Japan network plays an important role in connecting professionals from different industries around specific topics of common interest and helping companies address the challenges of the Japanese market. Becoming a Premium Partner also greatly contributes to this. It gives us greater visibility within the German-Japanese business community and allows us to engage more closely with a network that we see as highly relevant to our business in Japan.
AHKJ: In one sentence: What makes German-Japanese business partnerships successful?
German-Japanese business partnerships succeed because both cultures share a deep alignment in high-quality standards, long-term strategic vision and precision engineering. - Alberto Fochesato
