Agricultural and Food Exports

By order of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the AHK Japan as of April 1st, 2020 establishes a German Agriculture and Food Competence Center in Japan. The competence center promotes the export of German food and agricultural commodities and supports German companies with the initiation of their business in Japan. The BMEL finances the services of the competence center in order to make them more accessible and cost-effective for German companies.

Due to the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the EU and Japan, the trade between the both has increased in its first year in force. In the food sector, exports from EU to Japan have significantly increased between February and November 2019, for example wine (17.3%), pork (12.6%) or butter (47.8%). The recent trends should continue after the flaws in the world economy due to the coronavirus. A recent increase in requests from German food and agricultural companies to the AHK Japan indicates a high interest in the Japanese market.

By means of the new competence center, we can assist German agricultural and food companies even better in their business initiation in Japan.
