Agricultural and Food Exports

The German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan is operating a German Agriculture and Food Competence Center in Japan. The competence center promotes the export of German food and agricultural commodities and supports German companies with the initiation of their business in Japan.

Due to the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the EU and Japan, the trade between the both has increased in its first year in force. In the food sector, exports from EU to Japan have significantly increased between February and November 2019, for example wine (17.3%), pork (12.6%) or butter (47.8%). The recent trends should continue after the flaws in the world economy due to the coronavirus. A recent increase in requests from German food and agricultural companies to the AHK Japan indicates a high interest in the Japanese market.
