It is also highly cyclical with high capital investments such as aircraft purchases along with infrastructure. It is also susceptible to the effects of changing economic cycles, labor unrest, political developments, global and regional conflicts such as war, disease, natural disasters, terrorism and government taxation just to name a few.

Over the years many airlines have disappeared, either through mergers or bankruptcy. Current challenges. In the airline business Include the rising price of fuel, a lack of sufficient funding by governments to grow Infrastructure such as the expansion of airport capacity to match the growth in passenger traffic along with the investment in air traffic control systems that would improve efficiencies in the air and reduce congestion and delays.

Heike Birlenbach has a unique perspective on this industry, having worked in it in various positions for over 25 Years within the Lufthansa Group including her current position Senior Vice President Sales of Lufthansa Hub Airlines and CCO Hub Frankfurt. She will address the current state and future of the airline business along with sharing the position and vision of the Lufthansa Group, one of the leading global airlines.
