Artificial Intelligence has become a central driver of innovation across industries – from automotive and manufacturing to life sciences, robotics, and digital services. Companies are investing heavily in AI-based products, data-driven solutions, and intelligent systems. However, IP budgets are limited, and patent protection strategies must be carefully aligned with business objectives and international markets.
Securing effective protection for AI-related inventions is particularly challenging. Patent eligibility standards, examination practices, and strategic considerations differ significantly between Europe and Japan. Without a clear and coordinated approach, companies risk inefficient filings, rejected applications, or insufficient protection in key markets.

We will focus on:

  • How can AI-related inventions be protected by patents in Europe and Japan
  • Key differences in patentability requirements and examination practice
  • Typical pitfalls in drafting and prosecuting AI applications
  • How to allocate IP budgets efficiently across jurisdictions
  • How to design a coordinated European–Japanese filing strategy that supports long-term market positioning

The seminar is particularly relevant for decision-makers in R&D, innovation management, IP departments, legal teams, and corporate strategy functions who are responsible for protecting technology and maintaining competitive advantage in international markets.

After the seminar, the presenters are open for questions and discussions, as well as for individual consultation.

Participants may also join the presenters for a subsequent dinner in a restaurant nearby after the event and use the chance to exchange ideas in a smaller circle.
Please note that these costs will be borne by the participant.
