This symposium brings together leading German and Japanese companies, research institutions, and public-sector stakeholders in recycling and waste management to exchange practical insights and identify opportunities for collaboration. The program will showcase solutions supporting the circular economy—resource efficiency, waste reduction, and sustainable materials management including advanced separation systems, waste-to-energy infrastructure, eco-industrial zones, plastic recycling strategies, urban mining, and disaster waste management. Designed with business dialogue in mind, the symposium offers a platform to connect with peers, explore partnership potential, and discuss the policy and technology trends shaping the market.

The symposium aims to deepen bilateral exchange and support concrete cooperation by connecting decision-makers and experts from government, academia, and industry in Japan and Germany.

Held within the framework of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) Market Entry Program, the symposium is tailored for organizations and businesses from the circular economy, active in recycling, waste management, and environmental technologies. It is part of a business delegation of German SMEs visiting Japan from June 8 to 12, 2026, and is designed to facilitate targeted exchange and potential partnerships with Japanese stakeholders. Participation is subject to specific conditions.

Participating Companies
SOLAR MATERIALS GmbHSOLAR MATERIALS GmbH is a German cleantech company specialized in industrial recycling of photovoltaic (PV) modules with a strong focus on recovering high-value materials such as silver. For Japan, we aim to build partnerships along the PV end-of-life value chain: sourcing solar panel waste streams, securing laminate fractions containing silver, and establishing local silver recovery capacity. Our goal is to enable a scalable circular solution, potentially including a take-back and collection system in cooperation with Japanese partners.
STEINERT GmbHSTEINERT is a global leader in advanced separation technology for the recycling and mining industries. Headquartered in Cologne, Germany, the company develops and manufactures innovative magnetic and sensor-based sorting systems that enable efficient recovery of valuable resources from waste and primary materials. With subsidiaries and test centers across Europe, North America, Australia, Asia, and Latin America, STEINERT serves customers worldwide. Its portfolio covers metal, waste, mining, and glass applications, complemented by strong after-sales service and technical support. Through continuous innovation and global presence, STEINERT helps customers improve resource efficiency, sustainability, and profitability in increasingly demanding markets.
Wiprona GmbHWiprona GmbH is a German Start-Up-Company specializing in sustainable solutions for circular economy and green logistics. Originating from the ZIM-funded innovation network “WiProNa – We Produce Sustainability,” the company focuses on developing efficient, reusable systems that close material loops and reduce resource consumption. Its core mission is to combine ecological responsibility with economic performance. Wiprona designs and markets customized products such as reusable load carriers that replace single-use solutions, lowering waste and costs. Through its strong network of more than 30 partners from industry and research, Wiprona combines interdisciplinary expertise to deliver innovative, future-oriented production and logistics solutions.
ContainerGrid GmbHContainerGrid provides a neutral, cloud-based Workflow OS for the circular economy. Our platform digitizes and automates the end-of-life management of industrial assets, connecting asset owners, OEMs, recyclers, and material refiners. We enable auditable compliance with regulations like the EU Battery Regulation and maximize the recovery of critical materials (e.g., from batteries, electronics, and industrial equipment). We are a German software company, founded in 2021, with a validated platform and are now expanding into the Japanese market to partner with its world-leading industrial sectors.
GRANNEX GmBH & CO KGGRANNEX GmbH & Co. KG is a company that mechanically recycles post-consumer plastic waste into high-quality recyclates. Its proprietary process is capable of handling complex waste streams, including those with high levels of film and rigid plastics, which are typically incinerated due to the limitations of conventional mechanical recycling. This innovative technology is protected by patents in multiple countries, including Japan.
