Germany aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045, while Japan targets 2050, with both nations actively pursuing energy transition policies. Among these efforts, "hydrogen" (including ammonia, liquid hydrogen, LOHC, MCH, etc.) has received significant attention. In 2023, both the German and Japanese governments updated their respective hydrogen strategies and have been establishing various legal frameworks and support systems to advance hydrogen's societal implementation.

As part of the German-Japanese Energy Partnership, which promotes policy dialogue between the two countries, a workshop was held in 2023 on the theme of "Maritime Shipping and Infrastructure with a Focus on the Global Hydrogen Supply Chain." This year, during the Smart Energy Week, representatives from various institutions, including the Parliamentary State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, as well as members of HY-5 (The Green Hydrogen Initiative of Northern Germany, which comprises five federal states dedicated to promoting hydrogen implementation), will visit Japan.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, discussions will be held on the theme of "Perspectives on Hydrogen Infrastructure and Port Regions," focusing on the current challenges and future outlooks of German federal states and Japanese municipalities, both of which are key players in hydrogen's societal implementation. This event, through its workshop and networking sessions, aims to foster the construction of a hydrogen supply chain and strengthen cooperative relations between the two nations as they work toward carbon neutrality.
