German Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains & EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive

We would like to invite you to our seminar on “Status Quo of Due Diligence & Supply Chain Regulations in Germany and the EU and its implications on Japan” on February 2nd from 15:30 (front desk open 15.15) – 18:00 at Europa House and supported by EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation as well as the European Business Council in Japan (EBC).

In 2023, the Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains has come into force in Germany. It requires large enterprises with operations in Germany to take measures to minimize the risk of human right violations and environmental damage within their supply chains. From 1st January 2024, the Supply Chain Act also applies for companies with at least 1000 employees in Germany. Marking this new milestone, Mr. Torsten Safarik, President of the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA) will offer some insights into BAFA’s work as a supervising authority and outline the implications of the Supply Chain Act for German, European and Japanese companies.

Mr. Safarik’s adress will be complemented by Ms. Nevena Mateeva, First Secretary, Trade Section, Sustainability Delegation of the EU to Japan, talking about the current EU regulations and status of the commission’s proposal for a EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive.

Following the keynote speeches, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions during a Q&A session. The seminar will offer simultaneous translation in English and Germen. The event will conclude with a networking session with German dishes as finger food.
