About the event:
By many regarded as the biggest step in the history of data protection, the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has been finally in force since 25 May 2018. Designed to strengthen the rights of data subjects and with its broad international territorial scope, the GDPR is creating challenges for companies worldwide. If done right, compliance with the GDPR brings with it benefits for both the data subjects and companies involved. However, one of the biggest mistakes that can be seen in legal practice next to unawareness is believing in common misconceptions. We will cover the most important ones that we encounter on a regular basis.

Topics will inter alia include:

  • International applicability of the GDPR and data transfers
  • Consent and other legal grounds for data processing
  • Fines and enforcement

The speakers will focus on the practical implications for companies in Japan and how companies can prepare for it.
